There I was, about to graduate from college, reworking my resume for the twenty-second time, just trying to make it sound passable because I had no "JOB experience."
The thing is, I had spent the past THREE years of my life playing World of Warcraft as Guild Leader, Raid Leader, and Main Tank for numerous hard-core raiding guilds where I was putting in 6-8 hours of work a day, 6-7 days a week.
The problem was that no JOB or interviewer cared to any extent what experience I had while playing a VIDEO GAME because they all felt that video games were a complete waste of time.
I don't even remember how this picture got taken... I had no friends...
I had effectively frittered away my opportunity to create a future for myself all because I chose to do something that I enjoyed.
And thanks to my "hobby" taking all my time, I barely made it into a law school, and couldn't have felt more lazy about myself than when I would take a few minutes here or there to unwind with a video game (never mind that most of the other students spent their time partying, watching sports, or watching television).
No matter how hard I worked, or how many hours I put in each day, I wasn't living the dream that I had always had for myself because I was trying to live the way that my parents, teachers, and society told me to live.
Busted out my Guitar Hero guitar AND I was the only person to dress up for Halloween at Law School...
Then, As If By Chance, Something Amazing Happened...
During my last year of law school my best friend asked if I wanted to play some Gears of War. As soon as we loaded up into the game world, waves of joy and energy surged through me and I realized that I had effectively cut off the better part of myself to be somebody that I wasn't.
I instantly realized that my years of gaming in my youth had unlocked all manner of skills that I wasn't using because attorneys weren't supposed to be "childish" by playing video games.
Persistence, critical thinking, problem solving, communications, team building, budget and inventory management, and story-telling were just a portion of the skills that I had studied and developed over the years from childhood right up to the point where someone had convinced me to leave my gaming passion behind.
Finally accepted who I am meant to be, and became a smooth criminal all at once
Right then, instead of doing things the way that "normal society" wanted me to, I decided to channel my gamer skills and the power of my gaming experiences into the professional world!
Instantly, my grades improved, my social life improved, my job prospects improved, my sense of happiness and fulfillment swelled.
It became immediately crystal clear to me how to leverage my background as a gamer to create real results in any job or business, because I saw I could position myself above all my competitors in any endeavor using little know tips or tricks that only GAMERS ever learn.
All I had to do was realize that life is just a game.
Not only did I become an attorney, but I excelled at it.
I became a Court Administrator, managing a staff of 10 within 10 months of graduating from law school. I became partner at a 28-year old law firm at the age of 27 WITHOUT any connections, friends, or family to help me. I've built numerous businesses and presented in front of multiple organizations on how to grow and scale their incomes and their online presence.
After that, I moved to Las Vegas and graduated up to working with some of the largest businesses and consultants because they saw my results - all of which were directly attributable to some lesson that I had learned from my youth playing video games.
